Antique French Louis XV Style Beechwood Canapé was purchased at auction from Sloans & Kenyon, of Bethesda, Maryland. I purchased this settee over 15 years ago. It is absolutely beautiful with intricate detail in the carved woodwork.
This French style canapé/settee dates to ca. 1900. Nailed blue velvet/mohair upholstery. Flower-head crest over serpentine foliate-carved exposed frame with a serpentine stuff-over seat, similarly carved seat-rail. Cabriole legs - 38 1/2" by 53 1/2" by 28".
Very sturdy, well made, very usable. The mohair is a gorgeous shade of a French/Sapphire/Teal Blue.
I had a down topper custom made out of vintage jacquard fabric for this settee. The topper (not pictured) is not original to the settee, however, I had this made to help retain the plushness of the mohair and give the seat portion a bit more softness and comfort when sitting. I will include this with your purchase of the settee.
Settee has been well cared for, has no damage or signs of repair. Comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home.
