I'm an experienced piano teacher with a degree in music education and Louisiana Music Teachers Association certification. I teach on an excellent grand piano in my home studio, which is surrounded by visual aids and progress charts.
I can assure you that experience makes a difference. It's a delicate balance between motivation and pressure, and keeping students motivated is my highest goal. I have many techniques for positive reinforcement. I prefer 45-minute lessons to provide time to cover music theory, ear training, and sight reading, along with classical and pop music.
I have two recitals each year to provide valuable experience in diligence, focus and planning. I also participate in several local events held by the New Orleans Music Teachers' Association that give the students an opportunity to socialize and feel part of a larger group. Last fall my kids staged a benefit concert/practice-a-thon for Texas hurricane victims and raised several thousand dollars for the effort.
My tuition is based on a yearly schedule of 38 lessons. I divide the tuition payments equally over the year to equalize monthly payments and simplify record keeping. Students may enter or leave at any time during the year with no further commitment. Presently the monthly tuition is $118, which includes music and supplies.
With a studio of 27 at this time, I have just 2 openings on weekday afternoons, plus 2 for daytime students of any age (4 1/2 - adult).
