American Canoe Association certified Coastal Kayak instructor teaches both sit-in (sea kayak, recreation) and sit-on-top (SOT) paddling skills.
Sept 7th & 8th - Level 2: Essentials of SOT (Sit on Top) Kayaking Trip Leader (ESOTKTL) Training Course. The purpose of this course is to prepare individuals who intend to lead other paddlers ,either recreationally or professionally, in protected waterways using Sit-on-Top (SOT) kayaks only. The emphasis of the training is on leadership. Required prerequisite: Previouslycompleted the L2: Essentials of SOT Kayak Touring Skills Assessment and/or demonstration of equivalent skills.
Sept 21st - Introduction to Kayaking, ACA Level 1 (6-8 hrs) - Learn several basic strokes and basic self & assisted rescues. Prerequisite - none For: The paddler who has kayaked a little and knows they want to paddle more effectively and efficiently. Paddles enough that you want to learn basic rescues.
Sept 21st - Essentials of Kayak Touring, ACA Level 2 (8 hrs) - basic strokes improvement and some complex strokes introduced, bracing, and more self & assisted rescues Prerequisite - Level 1 or instructor permission For: The paddler who wants to become a much more proficient & safer paddler. Someone who is beginning to push the envelop of distance paddling or beginning to venture into the MS Sound.
Sept 28th & 29th - Level 2: Essentials of SOT (Sit on Top) Kayaking Trip Leader (ESOTKTL) Assessment. This ACA Assessment Course is designed to evaluate a participant’s ability to perform all the skills listed along with demonstrating an appropriate level of knowledge. This assessment course provides the participant with the opportunity to receive documentation of having achieved a certain level of paddling ability
TBD - Flatwater Safety and Rescues (approx 5 hrs). This class teaches self rescue and assisted rescue techniques. No strokes are covered. Plan to get wet lots during this rescue class. For: Paddlers who want to learn how to do self rescues and assist others if needed. Various rescue equipment is covered and practiced.
Additional training available when requested: Specialized self-rescue and assisting another paddler rescue, day trip leader, and rolling classes. Call to get early notification when classes are planned.
