I have a bound volume containing three (3) annual reports of the Louisiana State Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (La. S. S. P. C. A.). These reports are for the years 1912, 1913, and 1914. The volume is SIGNED by the SPCA President Lt. Col. Geo. McC. Derby, who turns out to have been a West Point graduate and a decorated Spanish American War veteran.
Back in those days, the Society was headquartered at 805 Howard Avenue, in New Orleans.
These reports are very interesting reading. For example, in 1912, the SPCA spent $ 4300 (a really large amount in those days) for a motorized ambulance to replace the horse drawn ambulance wagon that had previously been used.
This is an exceptionally rare volume. I know of no other copies anywhere either for sale or in any library.
