I apologize if this message is off topic - I am trying to give a broad group of people a chance to participate. Please disregard this message if you are not interested.
I'm a psychology graduate student doing a short internet survey (under the supervision of Dr. C.N. DeWall Ph.D.) that lasts about 25 minutes and I would appreciate if you could help me by filling it out. The survey is searching for feedback about a couple of different video games as well as taking some personality measures. Participation is completely voluntary and you can stop at any time. You will be compensated for your time. Also, your participation is anonymous and you will never be asked to provide your name. Please note that you must be over 18 to participate in this survey.

The National Association of Free Clinics (NAFC) and the Louisiana Free Clinic Association are calling on physicians and other health care professionals, as well as non-medical volunteers, throughout Louisiana to participate in the large free clinic for uninsured individuals that will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans on Saturday, Nov. 14th.

“All types of volunteers are needed to participate in this one-day, life-altering event,” Jeanette Alcon, executive director of the Louisiana Association of Free Clinics, said. “About 400 doctors and other medical providers and 700 other volunteers are expected to participate in the C.A.R.E.
The medical volunteers needed include doctors of medicine, doctors of osteopathy, doctors of podiatric medicine, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, registered nurses, licenses vocational nurses, emergency medical technicians and medical administrators. Non-medical volunteers are needed to help with documentation, logistical support, patient intake and translation, as well as to assist patients with scheduling follow-up appointments at their local charitable clinics.

I would like to offer my services to some volunteer agency within the New Orleans Metro Area where my bilingual skills might be of use. My reading and listening fluency in Spanish is great, but I hope to be able to improve my Spanish speaking ability working in some volunteer position that might involve some basic translation work. My Spanish-speaking skills are only fair, but I am a fast learner, and I can hold basic conversations. If there is some position where these skills might be helpful, I could offer work of one day a week with possible further expansion. I have a degree in Political Science, can type 90 wpm, and am very familiar with many microsoft computer programs and network operating systems. Something in the field of medicine is an interest of mine, but I would be open to discuss other possibilities. I can forward a resume to anyone who might be interested.

Protecting the Marine Turtles at Colola

December 16, 2009 - January 1, 2010
January 6 - January 22, 2010
January 27 - February 12, 2010

The program for protecting the Marine Turtles is run since 1996 together with the Michoacan University and the local people of Colola Beach. This year again the international volunteers will work with the people of Colola village to protect the sea turtles. There are two kinds of turtles that arrive on the beach, the Negra (Black Turtle) and the Golfina (Olive Riddle Turtle). The people involved in the project help by collecting eggs, burying them in the turtle camp, taking care of the baby turtles and doing some work collecting statistical information.
In this frame, a group of international volunteers will be involved in the project as members of the staff, which means that the volunteers will be very involved in the project and the work.
The goal of this project is to protect the turtles and to help run the conservation activities of the turtle protection program, promoting international cooperation and solidarity.
The main work consists in collecting turtle eggs, burying them again in a secure place, and transporting the baby turtles safely to the sea. This will be carried out at night since the turtles do not get out of the ocean during the day (because of their natural predators, it is safer for the turtles go out of the ocean in the dark). Together with the people from Colola Village, the volunteers will seek for the turtles and take care of the eggs and the baby turtles. Local people, who are very friendly, work with the group and explain them what to do.
Very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved in the work for protection of the turtles are needed for this project.
There are also some extra activities to be done with the local people in order to help improve the town such as setting names to the streets of the town or helping to arrange a multi-use playground for the children, and maybe some cleaning work, but this depends on the volunteers' initiative. The people of the town are very open to participate in other activities that the group of volunteers can propose, so any ideas will be welcome.
Language: The official language of the project is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated.
Location: Colola is a small town located on the Michoacan State coast, between Maruata and La Placita towns. It's a remote place that offers an excellent opportunity to be close to nature, on a virgin beach, with no tourism around. The closest city is Tecoman at 200 kilometers, but other villages such as La Placita that are closer (45 minutes by bus) can offer Internet connection.

For more details, please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-mexico.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

This project is part of CADIP's International Volunteer Program: www.cadip.org/workcamps.htm

Volunteers to care for rescued kitties at no-kill shelter (ARNO Elmwood)

These kitties are taking matters into their own paws. Come give us kitty love. Clean our cages and feed us. You will be rewarded with 9 lives or more.... Here is the ARNO story:

If you care about animals and want to make a difference in our community, you may want to volunteer at our no-kill shelter. ARNO or Animal Rescue New Orleans was formed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, but now is dedicated to the rescue of animals who have been abused, neglected, abandoned, the very young and the very old and the sick. Thanks to wonderful volunteers at our no-kill shelter, ARNO has helped more than 5,000 animals find a forever home in the last 2 years. Volunteers are the lifeblood of ARNO. We couldn't exist without the generosity of our volunteers. Duties include, but are not limited to: 'dishes' (litter pans and food/water bowl scrubbing), laundry, cat cages cleaned, puppy pens cleaned, dogs walked, manning booths at events, etc.

Donations and volunteers are always needed to continue this invaluable work. ARNO receives no major funding, existing entirely on your donations. Please consider helping in any way you can.

Please post to your friends and associates who care about animals. ARNO's success has always been, and continues to be, dependent upon volunteers. We need more local volunteers to keep the operation running. ARNO has been blessed with a successful outreach for out-of-state volunteers but there are times when we must call upon our local folks. I know locals are all busy with your own rescues, rebuilding your homes, your businesses, and trying to get back to financial stability. But please consider coming to help us at the shelter... even one day a week for a few hours.

If you know high school students who love animals, this is a perfect opportunity to put in community service hours, and a wonderful opportunity to add a bright spot to rescued animals lives. Volunteering can even be for a few dog walks or an evening after work or school.
Want to volunteer?
go to http://www.animalrescueneworleans.org/volunteer.html and fill out a very, very brief volunteer application; you will be contacted by email within 24 hours with the many options available for volunteers. WE ARE VERY LOW ON VOLUNTEERS 9-12 or early afternoon caring for cats giving them food and water and cleaning their kennels. These sweet kitties love the attention as much as the clean kennels and food.
You must be able to work with other volunteers who are like-minded about animals
• Be dependable, rain or shine
You will:
• Get more out of volunteering than you can possibly imagine
• Be thanked profusely for coming to help at our no-kill all-volunteer shelter
• Receive great Karma, good graces, etc. for helping these homeless pets know so many people care about them
Can't volunteer right now?
Go on our website at http://www.animalrescueneworleans.org and sign up for our e-News to keep up with the area's only all-volunteer no-kill shelter and rescue group.

Can You Spare $10?
Help us continue our feral dog rehab program, our neo-natal kitten rescue, our spay/neuter programs, heartworm treatment for rescued dogs, pet food/medical care for shelter and indigents' pets, etc. Donate directly through our website using a credit card, totally secure... or mail a check or money order to the address on our website. All donations tax deductible to the full extent the law allows. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
We started as local first responders after Katrina and our hearts were broken by the state of our area... we saw a need, that there was no one to trap, treat, rehab and adopt out homeless pets. The big organizations left us... please support locals who work to improve the plight of homeless companion animals in our greater metropolitan area.
Come by and meet our animals... you may just fall in love!
ARNO is open to the public seven days a week from 3pm until 7pm. We would love to meet you and introduce you to our shelter pets or just welcome you as a visitor.
Thank you for all you do for the animals and the people of our area!
* community service hours available at our nonprofit *
MEOW!!! Thanks from the kitties///////

Help care for rescued dogs and cats at no-kill shelter (ARNO ELMWOOD)

WE ARE VERY LOW ON VOLUNTEERS 9-12noon when dog walks are done and cats fed and watered.
Night dog walking teams are being formed for:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights from 6pm-8pm;
Day dog walking teams are being formed for:
Monday thru Sunday from 9am-12noon.
You must:
• Be able-bodied and able to walk and/or run
• Like to work with other volunteers who are like-minded about animals

The Midcity Green Market is looking for some great new talent to play at our weekly farmers market. Located at outside of the American Can Apartments, we offer locally grown, fresh fruits and veggies, seafood, breads, and more. Our goal is to provide local communities with everything needed to make a great, wholesome, family or communal meal.
Grow local, Buy local, Eat local.

At this time we do not have the funding for weekly music. So, we are asking the community to come and play for us in the hope that as the market grows we will be able to consistently provide this service. Of course you are welcome to provide a tip jar. There are possible paid monthly bookings available.

Help rescued dogs and cats at no-kill shelter (ARNO Elmwood)

Hello everybody
Just wanted you to know that ARNO volunteers have been hard at work rescuing puppies and kittens and now taking care of them. Amelia the rottie mix had a litter of 10 puppies under an abandoned house in Central City. All have been adopted except Michael and Tito. Amelia, the mama dog, has blossomed and is really filling out as she is socialized.
A month and a half ago volunteers rescued Liberty and 7 adorable shepherd/yellow lab mix puppies. They are now just over 10 weeks old and ready for adoption. They will be spated at 12 weeks and will be able to go home. They have had 2 rounds of shots, bordatella and dewormed. You can help in a big way by spreading the word and pix. Also if you can help by volunteering or donating by sending a check marked for Liberty's puppies or go to our website www.animalrescueneworleans.org.to donate through paypal. If times are tight maybe you could bring: Purina puppy, kitten, dog or cat food, cat sand, bleach, latex gloves, contractor size garbage bags, strong leashes or hand sanitizer. How about recycling for the animals: newspaper, old sheets or towels? All of this can help is in a big way.
Enjoy the pix!

Night dog walking teams are being formed for:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights from 6pm-8pm;
Day dog walking teams are being formed for:
Monday thru Sunday from 9am-12noon.
You must:
• Be able-bodied and able to walk and/or run
• Like to work with other volunteers who are like-minded about animals

We started as local first responders after Katrina and our hearts were broken by the state of our area... we saw a need, that there was no one to trap, treat, rehab and adopt out homeless pets. The big organizations left us... please support locals who work to improve the plight of homeless companion animals in our greater metropolitan area.
Come by and meet our animals... you may just fall in love! It is puppy and kitten season! We need volunteers and donations to help us help these sweet little newcomers to our shelter.
ARNO is open to the public seven days a week from 3pm until 7pm. We would love to meet you and introduce you to our shelter pets or just welcome you as a visitor.
Thank you for all you do for the animals and the people of our area!

Discovery Studios, the internal production company for all of the Discovery-owned channels, is producing a series of hour-long documentary style shows about hoarding, which will air on TLC. We are currently recruiting people who would like to participate.

A potential storyline could revolve around a situation where one family member is a hoarder and the rest of the family is having trouble coping. Or, it could be a family where multiple members are hoarders. In the most extreme cases, there may be a situation where the hoarder has been given an ultimatum to stop hoarding or else be evicted, cut off financially or divorced. Depending on the situation, we may be able to assist with finding a therapist or clean-up crew that can help guide the hoarder down a healthier road.

We understand the very personal and sometimes embarrassing nature of this issue and guarantee that we will treat all characters involved in our program with respect.

The Phoenix of New Orleans a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the recovery of the residents of Lower Mid-City New Orleans and it's surrounding neighborhoods by rebuilding quality affordable housing and by developing the community assets necessary for a vital neighborhood. We are in need of volunteers for Saturday, October 24, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Please email volunteer@pnola.org if you are interested in helping.

The "Ramp Up LA" project is a program administered through the Louisiana Serve Commission and is designed to help those in need build quality, affordable accessibility ramps for their homes with the participation of volunteers.

This project has a particularly powerful and immediate impact on the people we serve as it gives them access to the world outside of their house, and can instantly renew their sense of independence. In each instance, the elderly homeowners we will work with have struggled so hard to rehabilitate their properties and pick up the pieces of their life after Hurricane Katrina, only to be confined to them once they are able to move back in.

These accessibility ramp projects will be done in conjunction with Trinity Christian Community, AmeriCorps, and the Phoenix of New Orleans as part of "Make A Difference Day" on October 24th, the national day to help others and make a difference in the community (general info. http://www.usaweekend.com/diffday/aboutmadd.html our specific ramp project http://www.mindshares.org/MADD2009_DAYtaBANK/ProjectView2009.cfm?PrjID=KB1931).

Help four-legged victims of the streets and the storms (ARNO Elmwood)

Night dog walking teams are being formed for:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights from 6pm-8pm;
Day dog walking teams are being formed for:
Monday thru Sunday from 9am-12noon. THere is a great need for volunteers during the week from 9-1pm
You must:
• Be able-bodied and able to walk and/or run
• Like to work with other volunteers who are like-minded about animals
• Be dependable, rain or shine
You will:

Are you a fun, young, professional woman looking to make a difference?

Then come join the WGirls on Wednesday October 21, 2009 at 8pm for drinks at Maya’s Restaurant & Bar located at 2027 Magazine Street (uptown).

About the WGIRLS
The WGirls was founded in NYC when a group of young professional women decided to host weekly get-togethers to hang out, catch up and plan events.....over drinks. As the group grew and friendships formed, the girls decided to commit their time, energy and talents to helping those less-fortunate. Today, the WGIRLS aims to provide underprivileged women and children with the support and resources necessary to achieve health, happiness, and the ability to lead productive and successful adult lives.

Given the success of the group in NYC, we have decided to launch the New Orleans chapter, making this a great time for you to join! By partnering with other nonprofit organizations and hosting charity events, we will be able to affect reverberating positive change in the lives of women and children in both local and international communities.

To get more information about the W Girls or to RSVP for the upcoming meeting, please email Rachael at wgirlsnola@yahoo.com

We look forward to seeing you there!

Help the four-legged victims of the streets and the storms (ARNO Elmwood)

Night dog walking teams are being formed for:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights from 6pm-8pm;
Day dog walking teams are being formed for:
Monday thru Sunday from 9am-12noon.
You must:
• Be able-bodied and able to walk and/or run
• Like to work with other volunteers who are like-minded about animals
• Be dependable, rain or shine
You will:
• Get more out of volunteering than you can possibly imagine
• Be thanked profusely for coming to help at our no-kill all-volunteer shelter
• Receive great Karma, good graces, etc. for helping these homeless pets know so many people care about them
