expect to pay over $70 a month for internet if on the premier tear and dont use cox for phone or internet. we are all getting ripped off . Thanks to mayor nagin for not thinking forward and building our own community fiber network here in new orleans ( since cox is in his pockets)
layfayette is the only progressive city when it coms to tech and the local people.

if you still use cox for tv then that will increase as well. if you have everything expect a $7 increase. lets not forget cox rasies phone rates earlier this year, and im not 100% sure but i think i read an email months back about cox charging a little extra for cables boxes. also cox claims it will double the speed of internet. lies it actually is just a 5 mbit increase to 25 mbit a sec down and only a 2-3 upload (which is pathetic compared to what they get in lafayette municipal fiber network )

also note cox is not a fiber network, your connection is shared with your neighbors and speed depends on your neighbors internet usage, but with fiber to the home you get a direct link to the network non shared)

also you are lucky in most areas if you even get the lower speed of 1-2 mbit even wth paying $70 a month for the higher speed because cox refuses to go fiber to the home. this could easily be solved if new orleans built its own network (its not too expensive and the city would be able to pay it off in a couple of years with a small profit to boot)

Cox Communications is raising prices on its television and Internet offerings effective Dec. 8, while adding nine channels and increasing Internet speeds, the local cable provider said Thursday.

Customers in Baton Rouge and Lafayette who subscribe to basic cable only will see prices rise by $2.58 per month and those who subscribe to expanded basic will pay another $3 per month.

Certain premium channels, such as HBO, Showtime, Stars and Cinemax, will increase $1 per service, Cox said.

Cox said it has seen a 78 percent increase in retransmission fees for basic and expanded basic service and a 10 percent increase in programmer fees to companies including Disney, ESPN, Fox and NBC Universal.

�We really do try to absorb as much cost as we can but across all levels � our costs have gone up,� spokesman Ann Ruble said, noting also that costs are projected to go up again next year.

�At some point we had to look at doing somewhat of an increase, and we tried to make it as small as possible,� she said.

Cox said most video customers will see a rate increase of under 6 percent.

Ruble said Cox ran the numbers for the 17-parish area and found about 2 percent of video customers � the ones with the most premium channels � would see an increase of 7 percent.

Residential Internet customers subscribing to starter, value, preferred or premier service can expect a price increase between $2 and $3, depending on the level of service subscribed to.

Internet speeds on those tiers will increase. Ruble said the biggest gains will be in the two most-popular packages. The speed of the essential package would double and the preferred package will increase by about 20 percent.

The price on Cox�s ultimate tier will not increase and there will be no increase for business customers.

Cox will launch six new high-definition channels, bringing the Baton Rouge market total to 74. The new channels are: ESPNews HD (channel 738); Investigation Discovery HD (channel 749); msnbc HD (channel 764); Tennis Channel HD (channel 784); Disney XD HD (channel 786); and BBC America HD (channel 787).

Lafayette will get nine high-definition channels, picking up the six debuting in Baton Rouge, plus three that are already available in Baton Rouge � The Movie Channel; a Cinemax channel called More Max; and the music video channel Fuse.

Cox Communications is informing Louisiana customers that they'll be raising both TV and broadband prices this fall. According to The Advocate, basic cable customers will be seeing a price hike of $2.58 per month, and those who subscribe to expanded basic will pay another $3 per month. Premium services like HBO and Showtime will also be seeing $1 hikes. Cox customers on starter, value, preferred or premier broadband tiers can also expect rate hikes of between $2 and $3 a month. However, I tried to follow this article's suggestions, but those instructions appear to be inaccurate or at least no longer valid, as I talked to someone in the Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Office on Friday October 16 who informed me that the Louisiana State Police do not handle any press credential requests.

She said that members of the media who wish to receive credentials to specific events must obtain those credentials from the respective event organizers or organization they wish to cover and that her office has nothing to do with handling such requests.
